Preface

“Let everyone hear the voice of hope”
“Light of Memory, Inspiring the Future”

Hello everyone, I’m Hsieh Li-Chien, a clarinetist.

Since 2023, I’ve traveled to rural areas to co-instruct students’ music lessons for 2 consecutive years. There, I met a few underprivileged children in rural areas who have struggled in everyday life but showed immense music potential. As they continued to surprise and captivate me with their utmost innocent performances, flawed yet powerful, I realized how music education can mean more than a mere recreation to targeted individuals.

Thus, I began preparing for a bold project called Lumora.

CARE · Music Brings Hope

S__49045613.png

CARE represents our core values:

C  :Clarinet —— We begin with the clarinet, believing that music is not only an art form but also a force that connects hearts and opens infinite possibilities.

A  :Accessibility —— We are committed to promoting accessibility in music, ensuring that everyone—regardless of age, background, or physical condition—can engage with and enjoy its beauty.

R  :Resilience —— We emphasize resilience, trusting that music education helps people find courage and strength when facing challenges and adversity.

E  :Education —— With education at the core, we are dedicated to nurturing the next generation of musicians and listeners, allowing music to become a guiding light that illuminates lives and futures.

Lumora

  • Lumen / Lumo →

  • Memoria →

About Us

Lumora, a name pieced by two Latin root words: Lumo and Memoria.

  • Lumo means light

  • Memoria means memory

Joinedly, the project Lumora I conceived symbolizes sparks of memory, as I hope to enlighten the worlds of visually impaired communities through the love and energy spread by music.

Lumora will be introduced as a platform combining public initiatives and podcasts aimed at promoting music education.

  • The platform will offer tailored online lessons, braille music sheets, and rental or discounted sales of second hand instruments.

  • Podcasts will invite collaborative partners to share community stories and performances hosted.

At present, we have completed the basic website setup and begun planning content and early outreach. I have also started discussions with like-minded musicians, designers, and educators, hoping to gradually turn this dream into reality.

In the future, I hope Lumora will not just be a platform, but a bridge.
A bridge that connects musicians, volunteers, educators, and communities—allowing more underprivileged children to access music, more visually impaired friends to freely perform, and more communities to be united through music.

I believe Lumora will outgrow Thornton and extend its reach to global destinations, connecting people through music.

Our charitable initiatives start immediately!

By leveraging the resources at USC, I plan to collaborate with student engineers to design a tactile clarinet that will enable visually impaired individuals to identify key positions through touch. It will even incorporate a vibration feedback system to assist them in interpreting conductor cues during ensemble performances.
